Description
After many lifetimes of development Samsara is here…. A Bipolar CV controller originally conceived of as a way of controlling the speed and direction of tape loops in the uTape Scrubber micro-cassette looper module.
After many different versions the design ironically came full circle back to an early prototype that felt the most playable.
The result is a module which enables new ways to play your Eurorack system rather than programming it!
Real world physical and visual feedback gives an experience that is often missing from Eurorack systems.
When used with the uTape Scrubber the module allows tape loops to be scrubbed and scratched just like a vinyl.
The output CV can be used to control an CV input in your eurorack system.
Try patching it to a granular sampler and move the playhead back and forth to virtually simulate a tape loop moving back and forth across a playhead.
The CV output depending upon the speed and direction the plate is moved. The output CV jack is located in the top left of the panel.
Clockwise movements produce positive control voltages and conversely Anti-clockwise produce negative control voltages.
The CV gain control knob is located in the top right of the panel.
The CV output can range as far as +/-10V with the gain put turned up to full when the wheel. With the gain knob in the centre position the CV range is +/-5V.
There are two sensitivity modes to choose from which can be selected using the push button labeled “scratch” in the bottom right of the panel.
When the button is not depressed the module is in Normal sensitivity mode.
In normal sensitivity mode it takes a full speed spin of the plate to achieve a +/-10V range output (with the gain knob maxed).
With scratch mode activated it only takes a small movement to achieve the same range.
Normal mode is great for creating decaying CV voltages as the spinning plate slows down over time.
Scratch mode is ideal creating rapidly changing control voltages from positive to negatives. This mode was added to enable sections of tape on the uTape Scrubber to be easily played, scrubbed and scratched forwards and backwards with small movements of the plate.
A momentary CV KILL push button has been included in the bottom left of the panel to for muting the CV when desired.
Lovingly designed and made by Monojack of Beepboop Electronics in the beautiful county of Worcestershire.
