Description

Originally the LOFI uTape Scrubber module was designed to give a 1:1 mixed output of the audio input and the tape playback output.

The idea was to make it quick and simple to make a recording whilst monitoring the signal being recorded.

By mixing the audio input with the tape replay output signals no complicated patching was required. I called the function FT as in FEED THROUGH.

BUT……

Sometimes we don’t want to be able to hear the audio input signal. For example there are times when we would want to do parallel processing ie patch the signal being recorded and the playback of the tape separately before mixing them.

It is therefore useful to have some sort of MUTE for the input signal.

Introducing the 2hp FT Auto-Mute expander!

Add REC/PLAY mode gate outputs!

Add automated and gateable audio thorough muting to the LOFI uTape Scrubber!

The 2hp FT Mute expander can be used to mute the audio through in 4 different ways.

  1. Use the FT Mute jack input and patch a 5V gate signal to activate the muting circuit.
  2. Use the switch. Upper position = Audio input FT active in PLAY mode.
  3. Use the switch. Lower Position = Audio input FT active in REC mode.
  4. Use the latching push switch to mute the audio input FT all the time!

When the switch is in the middle position the automated FT muting is deactivated.

The module also includes two buffered gate outputs which output a signal depending upon which mode, RECORD or PLAY, the main module is currently in.

These come in handy!

One of my favorite patches so far is to use the record gate to trigger a drum module I am recording. This way with just the REC/PLAY switch I can play and record a drum sound onto a tape loop in time with it’s tempo.

Module includes cable to connect to uTape Scrubber and mounting screws.
