Description

First Kontact is a Piezo microphone amplifier that converts physical vibration into sounds.

The device has been designed for field recordings to collect found sounds, AMSR or to simply amplify physical instruments.

This amplifier is based on a JFET high impedance charge type amplifier circuit, which is not affected by the length of the input cable! (unlike most other contact mic amplifiers)

Contact microphones require a high impedance input amplifier like this First Kontact Amplifer to give a good frequency response, low noise and prevent signal loss.

The circuit has been upgraded to Include an ultra low noise OPA op-amp.

A super high quality large Piezo contact microphone is mounted to the base and normalised to the amplifer input.

When using an external contact microphone plugged into the input on the rear the mounted contact microphone is silenced.

The battery is rechargeable and can last for 10 hours on a single charge.

The charge amplifier used in the First Kontact is much better suited for contact mics than a zoom recorder or standard input on a mixing desk for a few reasons.

It’s to do with the way contact mics produce charge rather than current when excited. This design has a much higher impedance than standard amplifiers and is unaffected by cable capacitance caused by cable lengths.

The result is better frequency response and much better signal to noise ratio.

The high impedance prevents low frequency roll off. The removal of the effect of cable capacitance then prevents high frequency roll off.
